Learn Pastel Techniques

Here is a sample of Fran Auker’s remarkable talent with pastels.

Artist Fran Auker will hold a pastel workshop in our Greenfield gallery. Learn various pastel painting techniques, such as blending, shading, layering and cross-hatching while making art with this versatile media. Each participant will take home a 10-by-12-inch canvas, and all supplies are provided.

The fee is $25 with a registration deadline of August 2. Because supplies will be purchased beforehand, there are no refunds. To register, please click the button at the bottom of this page.

About the instructor: Fran attended IU, John Herron Art Institute, and Ball State with a double major in Art, obtaining a master’s degree. She taught art in the Pendleton Community Schools for 32 years and is presently affiliated with the Pendleton Artist Society, where she teaches classes in pastels and exhibits her work.

Since retirement, Fran has enthusiastically pursued pastel painting, developing a technique that, she hopes, expresses sensitivity, energy and the way she sees the world. Fran considers herself a colorist, and has particular interest in subjects with transparency, translucence and reflections.

Her work won “Best of Show” in the Art Association of Madison County Exhibition. During last year’s ChalkFest, Fran’s pastels were featured in the “Grace of Pastels” show at the Hancock County Arts Council’s Twenty North Gallery. We’re delighted that she has been juried into the Will Vawter Art Show for several years running.
