COVID-19 Gallery Protocol

COVID-19 Gallery Protocol

Effective 5/26/2020 and subject to change

Hancock County Arts (HCA) is committed to providing a safe and healthy arts space for all our volunteers, artists, shared space partners, and guests. To ensure we have a safe and healthy gallery space, we have developed the following COVID-19 Gallery Protocol in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our goal is to mitigate the potential for transmission of COVID-19 in our gallery and community, and that requires full cooperation among our volunteers, artists, shared space partners, and guests.

Starting May 26, 2020, the gallery will open for Greenfield Main Street Inc. (GMSI) employees and board members to use. The gallery will open to the public beginning June 13, 2020.

Our COVID-19 Gallery Protocol follows the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Indiana Department of Health (IDH) guidelines, federal OSHA standards related to COVID-19 and Indiana Executive Order 20-26.

When the gallery reopens on May 26th, we will observe the following guidelines:

Social Distancing

Social distancing of six feet will be implemented and maintained between all individuals in the gallery using the following controls:

  • No more than ten (10) people will be allowed in the gallery at one time. For public openings and events*, an HCA volunteer (“safety officer”) will be in charge of enforcing this rule.
  • When more than one person is in the gallery, all individuals are highly encouraged to wear masks. For public openings and events, masks will be mandatory to enter the gallery.
  • No food is to be served in the gallery.
  • If beverages are served, one person must be the server and wear a facemask and gloves.
  • Noncontact methods of greeting should be used – no handshakes or hugs.

Cleaning and Disinfecting

Appropriate and effective cleaning and disinfectant supplies will be available for use in accordance with product labels, safety data sheets, and manufacturer specifications and are being used with required personal protective equipment for the product.

  • When working at the desk, an individual must wipe down the desk surface, computer keyboard, and any other high-touch items on the desk prior to use and again after work is completed.
  • High-touch areas in the gallery must be wiped down upon entry and before exiting the gallery. During events, intermittent disinfecting of high-touch areas is encouraged. These include door knobs, light switches, water cooler, cabinet handles, thermostats, tables, chairs, faucet handles, etc.
  • When able, individuals are encouraged to use a tissue to open doors, turn on/off light switch, use the water cooler, etc. to minimize the areas touched.
  • Hand sanitizer, tissues, and disinfectant wipes will be located throughout the gallery.
  • Caution should be used when utilizing shared supplies like pens, scissors, stapler, etc. When using shared supplies, the user must sanitize them before returning them to their place. For public openings and events, all pens and sign-up sheets should be removed.

Handwashing and Respiratory Etiquette

Basic infection prevention measures are being implemented at all times.

  • All guests should wash (with soap and water for at least 20 seconds) or sanitize their hands immediately upon entering the building. Hand-sanitizer dispensers are at entrances and locations in the building so they can be used for hand hygiene in place of soap and water, as long as hands are not visibly soiled.
  • Masks are highly encouraged when in the gallery and are mandatory for public openings and events. If not wearing a mask, volunteers, artists, shared space partners, and guests are instructed to cover their mouth and nose with their sleeve or a tissue when coughing or sneezing and to avoid touching their face, in particular their mouth, nose and eyes, with their hands. They should dispose of tissues in provided trash receptacles and wash or sanitize their hands immediately afterward.

It is very important that we maintain honest communications with one another about practices that make us uncomfortable so that everyone feels ok about being in the gallery! Thank you in advance for taking care of yourself, your colleagues, our partners, and our guests.

* “Public openings and events” refers to any time the gallery is open to the public (ie. all open hours, receptions, etc.).
