Riley was an American writer, poet, and author. During his lifetime he was known as the "Hoosier Poet" and "Children's Poet" for his written works and his children's poetry and of the approximately one thousand poems that Riley authored, the majority are in dialect. His famous works include "Little Orphant Annie" and "The Raggedy Man".Riley's grave overlooks the entire city from "the Crown" of the hill and is visited often. One finds coins left by visitors and wreaths from classrooms of children who still read the famous stories. Wind your way through the 25 miles of paved cemetery road, passing 150 species of trees and plants and over 200,000 graves to the top of the 3rd largest Cemetery in the country to find the breathtaking view that can only be seen at Riley's gravesite.
